When I go to intermediate/advanced dance classes, I’m amazed by those dancers that are able to pick up on choreography FAST. It seems like they just need to see it once or twice and they’re ready to nail it. That is . . . NOT me. Day 1 I am concentrating hard, trying to move in the same direction as everyone else so as not to bump into anyone, and attempting to stay mostly on beat (maybe a little slower if turns are involved or floor work on the knees). I’m more of a day 2 girl (sometimes a day 3 or 4). If there’s the benefit of repeating the class with the same choreography a second day I am so much more confident. I can retain more choreography, and have more fun. Thankfully many of our classes here at Dogpatch repeat. Frankie’s Dancehall class on Thursdays and Saturdays. Binki’s Femme Fusion on Thursdays and Fridays. Jayde’s Heels class Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Sometimes we’re more capable than we think. We just need more time.
